All international travelers over the age of 4 going to the state of Quintana Roo which includes popular destinations such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Tulum must pay the new visitax fee. This new tax called Visitax has been created in April 2021 by the state government and is mandatory to ALL visitors of the state of Quintana Roo.

The cost of this new tax is 224 Mexican Pesos or roughly $12 USD and will be payable before you board your departure flight. Visitors will be asked to present their VISITAX receipt to security before boarding the airplane. The VISITAX receipt will show the amount paid and also the QR code that you must present at the airport in order to verify your payment. New electronic terminals are also being set up at the airport where you can make a cash payment for the VISITAX.
This new visitor fee is in addition to the hotel and airport taxes that you will already be paying, so make sure that you have accounted for this additional expense before you arrive at your vacation destination.
